Bethel Hill Charter School Acceptable Use Policy for Computers, Internet and Other Technology For Students for Grades 3-6

PARENTS: PLEASE GO OVER THIS CAREFULLY WITH YOUR CHILD

Computers:

I understand that I will be using computers to help me with reading, math and other subjects.  I agree to follow the rules of Acceptable Use as follows:

--I will not cause damage to computers or change how they are set up.

--I will not modify or delete any files that belong to others.

--Passwords will not be shared.  I will only use my password.

--I will only use the machine that is assigned to me unless otherwise assigned another machine by a responsible adult.

--I will save and print only with permission from the adult in charge.

--I will not bring any discs or software from home and attempt to use it on a school computer nor will I  take any software or discs from school without permission from a responsible adult. (note:  Whereas the school has a limited number of computers which use ‘floppy disks’, the most appropriate portable storage device would be a ‘USB Flash Drive/Memory Stick’ or a Read/Writeable CD disk.)

--I will not bring food, drinks or gum into the labs or around any computers.

--I know that the computer is an instructional tool.

Internet

While at school I may use the Internet for research, to learn and to correspond with others.  I agree to follow the rules of Acceptable Use as follows:

--I will not download any material without specific permission.

--I will only go to pre-approved web sites.

--I will not copy or print information from the Internet and claim it as my own work.

--I understand copyright laws or will ask my teacher to explain them to me.

--If using communication I will use appropriate language and “Netiquette”.  I will use email for educational purposes only.

--I understand that there will be some restricted sites and I will not attempt to go to them.

--I will not give out personal information about others or myself on the computer or over the Internet.

--If I see something mean, frightening or inappropriate I will tell an adult as soon as possible.

--Information that I get from the Internet is for me to use, but I did not create it and must give credit to who did.

--I will only use the Internet with my teacher or instructor present.

Telephones

I understand that only with permission will I be allowed to use the phone in the classroom or anywhere else on campus.

Other Equipment

If allowed to use items such as calculators, cameras, overheads, microscopes, copiers etc, by a responsible adult, I will do so in a safe and respectful manner.  If I fail to follow any of these rules I could lose my privileges using technology at Bethel Hill Charter School.  If I see anyone else failing to follow these rules, I will immediately report this to the nearest responsible adult.

Parents can opt out for their child using the Internet.  Permission to keep your child from access to the Internet while at school can be given below by signing and dating.  You only need to fill this out if you do not wish your child to use the Internet while at school
